Smart Fit Success Stories

Before working with Jaclyn my running was very different! I was running harder (but going slower) and my low back was always sore after a run (I chalked this up to the impact from running). Jaclyn corrected my posture (no more low back pain!!) And now I’m not running myself exhausted and getting a better time over all. She is super friendly and I really loved and appreciated the weekly meet ups/ follow up messages. And she was always very quick to answer my questions and make suggestions to help me reach my goal! After the 10 week program I reached my goal of a sub 30 5k time, I cut my Spartan Sprint time by 30mins and even with running 2 races back to back felt that my lungs could keep going! What used to be my ‘personal best’ is now my average and as I continue following the program I can feel myself growing stronger. I plan on continuing the program to keep improving my speed, and will be implementing all of her suggestions to help add distance and more hill runs as I prepare for the Spartan Beast/Trifecta weekend in Kimberley. I know if I follow her plan I will be well prepared!



Before training with Jaclyn, my training was sporatic, and with no real direction. I’ve had a long history of hard training, but had no real knowledge of the real how to run/train for running, nor how to GET BETTER at running…

Jaclyn was great to work with. I have a very unusual schedule that needs to be worked around, and she really did a custom plan for ME, and what was available to me. With a few minor injuries, we were able to come up with alternate moves that didn’t irritate (or make worse) the problem areas.

I went from having a hard time doing a very slow jog for more than 15 mins (and hating it, feeling like I was going to die any minute), to being able thoroughly ENJOY running! And I can call it running! Plus significant increase in strength, most noticeably upper body!

The first 2 Spartan Races I ran were in Red Deer…the Sprint and Super (5km and 14.5km)…I damned near died. Literaly, lol, my heart rate spiked to 178 for 5 mins straight! Lol. Then I ‘hired’ Jaclyn. Through her personalized program I trained for the CalgarySpartan Sprint and Super…and was SO MUCH MORE PREPARED for it! I still almost died, but that’s because the course was literally a BMX course and there’s no way to prepare for all of those continuous UPs and DOWNs, but I had a huge improvement with everything! Obstacles were better/easier for me to ‘get over’, running was definitely better…It was all sooooo much better….other than the stupid BMX course, lol.

I’m hoping to get a few current minor injuries/irritations cleared up then plan to hit a goal of doing a BEAST! Ohya! Could not have even considered it without having done my training with Jaclyn. Funny enough, I’ve never even met her in person! I live on the other side of the province, and all her help was via emails/texts/messaging! Thanks again Jaclyn for your all of your effort to help me become a runner and an OCR-er!


My running before working with you was almost non existent. I had previously (aka years ago) tried the coach to 5K with limited success. I equated running with discomfort, asthma problems and more of a “groaning response”. I could do it, it was painful and I knew it would be one of the fastest ways of improving my fitness, but I didn’t want to do it.  What I liked most about working with you was getting access to: YOU! You are approachable, kind, caring – qualities you don’t always assume you’re going to find with a fitness coach.

I was AMAZED by how much longer and faster I could run. It sometimes felt almost effortless to go out and do an “easy pace” run for 35 mins- something I thought would be impossible. I didn’t think it would ever be that comfortable to run, I didn’t think I could ever run that far or that fast.

Before working with Jaclyn I was running but without a purpose and unsure what to do to improve. Using random apps but not feeling accountable. Jaclyn was easily accessible and always responded to my messages. She seemed to understand what my goals were and made me feel comfortable with trying to achieve them and is  a very nice, down-to-earth person.  I surprised myself-thanks to this program. I was able to run for longer periods of time. I was able to run faster. I was able to keep up with the training schedule and still have a ‘normal’ life.

My running is much better than before I worked with Jaclyn, I am able to do longer runs and feel good about them. Not hate every second. I could not have done this half marathon without you. When I signed up for this race, my goal was to survive it. After a few weeks of training in your program, I realized that I was going to do better that just survive. The program that you set up for me prepared me for the 21kms and allowed me to get a decent time for my first attempt. The finish line was glorious.
I’m considering another half marathon in the spring and know I can do it because of your program. I’ve also had a few thoughts of a full marathon but who knows. Regardless of the goal I pick, I know that the coaching you have provided will definitely be a huge part of my training. I would also not hesitate to contact you for more advice in the future and have no problem recommending you to friends.
I also love all your Facebook posts on random information like new exercises, stretches, nutrition tips etc. All are very practical and very helpful!

I met Jaclyn through my friend Kristi when I attended her outdoor boot camp sessions. Jaclyn was totally professional & organized. The exercises she had us doing in the outdoor boot camp were something that I would have never done on my own. She taught us how to do these properly so that we wouldn’t hurt ourselves & gave us modifications when needed. I’ve also done some online sessions prior to the Obstacle Course Training ones. I loved that I could fit the workouts into my schedule & am able to do them at home – she provided multiple modifications so that I didn’t need to go to a gym. The workouts she gave us are very flexible & can be used over & over again or changed up to suit our needs.

This year my brother approached me about doing the Relay for Life – at first I was a bit concerned as I had been feeling quite tired & just not able to keep up with a routine. When I heard about Jaclyn’s Obstacle Course Online Training sessions I was very interested – I knew that if I am going to do the Relay for Life than I need to do more than just walk/run on the treadmill. Jaclyn’s passion for obstacle course racing has really intrigued me & made me want to work harder & I felt that doing this would help. So I signed up & have been doing the program for the past few weeks. I’ve always struggled with my core & upper body strength & this program has really helped in those areas – I am feeling a lot less tired lately & I have seen improvement – I am able to actually do pushups from my toes!!  As well as burpees (I’ve been using the modified versions) but I am seeing improvement in that area as well. When Jaclyn first introduced me to the burpee I thought what have I gotten myself into? – this is going to put me in the hospital but I’ve been able to push through it & I can now do 10 full burpees (without modifying). Jaclyn’s workouts have definitely helped me in this area more than just walking/running on the treadmill ever could. I’ve come to count my successes more in my ability to get through the workouts & watch my improvements each week. The workouts that Jaclyn provides with the modifications work towards building up strength & endurance. The exercises are challenging, fun & progressive. Jaclyn has been an amazing motivator – she is constantly providing examples of her own challenges & successes which make the whole experience more real.  I look forward to continuing to work with you in the future!!

I am 32 years old and have been working out in a gym for years and have also been running for awhile so I was skeptical of signing up honestly. I have never ran an obstacle course race before and decided it couldn’t hurt to try this program out as I was in the dark for how to train besides some online research. No regrets! Jaclyn is amazing! She encourages you every step of the way. She understands that we are all human and sometimes life gets in the way. You can reach out to her privately and she is more than happy to help you out if you have any questions or concerns. She is very personable and approachable and you can tell she has a big heart and cares about everyone’s successes individually. She checks in with everyone on the group page as well as privately to see how you are doing and where you are at. Jaclyn will also modify the workouts to suit your fitness level and has many informative videos weekly explaining how the workouts are done. The best part of the program is you have access to this information forever unlike many other online training courses where if it says 8 weeks they mean 8 weeks. This course is much more flexible. The private Facebook group is a place you can share your vulnerability and relate with others in the program without judgement. You may even find some new workout buddies in the process! I give Overcoming Obstacles 2 thumbs up and recommend it to anyone looking to run an obstacle course such as Spartan Sprint, Rugged Maniac, Foam Fest, X Warrior etc. Jaclyn will not disappoint.


Being Healthy, getting into shape and looking after myself has taken on a new level of importance since the birth of my children.  I was motivated not only for me, but for the people I was raising to live healthy lifestyles.  Jaclyn has helped me in so many ways along my journey to attain greater physical health.  To begin with, she has been amazingly supportive, not only keeping me motivated and on track to achieve my goals, but also providing emotional support when I have a tough week or lose my motivation.  She understands that life tries to get in the way of getting a workout done, and that missing a workout is not the end of the world…that tomorrow is another day, and I can start fresh.  This philosophy is both motivating and empowering.  Jaclyn has also provided me with workouts tailored to my personal goals, ensuring that I achieve success every step of the way.  In January 2015 I started working with Jaclyn and within approximately 4 months I had lost over 6 inches.  I felt amazing and proud of my results.  Jaclyn was right there applauding my success.  She is not only my personal trainer, she is my friend and I’m proud to work with her.  Jaclyn gives new meaning to the word “champion”, as I feel she has been behind me from the moment we started on this journey together.  I have always felt that my fitness journey has been a partnership, not me going it alone.  I know she is always in my corner, and my success is her success.  Thank you Jaclyn for your unending support, guidance and energy!  You are an inspiration!
